Vale Sue Salthouse, Disability Advocate, ACT Senior Australian of the year 2020 and good friend

It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of our good friend and disability advocate Sue Salthouse in a traffic accident in ACT Australia.

Sue was a strong, vibrant, inspiring intellectual woman who brought love and laughter to many who knew her.  I came to know her as  a strong disability and gender equality advocate, and over the years she has shared insights, challenged and mentored me through many gender equality discussions.

Sue was many things, the Chair of the Board for Women with Disabilities Australia, a member of WAVE and National Foundation of Australian Women and this year received the honour of being titles ACT senior Australian of the year.

What I will remember of her is her kindness, her laughter, her warmth  and her ability make everyone feel heard.  Thank you for being who you were in this world.  May you rest in peace.

Our deepest sympathies go to Sue’s family, friends and communities.

In accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 73/340, a high-level meeting of the General Assembly will be held in New York later in the year, with the overall theme: “Accelerating the realisation of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.
As part of the preparations for the high-level meeting, the President of the General Assembly, with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), will organise and preside over an interactive multi-stakeholder hearing, to ensure the active participation of multi-stakeholders in the process.
Due to the expected continued limitations on holding large in-person meetings as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, the multi-stakeholder hearing will be held on a virtual platform on 21 July 2020.
Registration for representatives of NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is open until 10 July 2020. Online registration is mandatory for all participants. We are not able to accept registrations by e-mail.
Conference focal points of NGOs in consultative status will be able to approve a maximum of three (3) representatives per organisation to participate via the interactive online platform. Once their registration has been approved by their organisations, registered representatives will receive online participation details in the days prior to the event commencing.
Alongside the interactive virtual platform that requires registration, there will be a public webcast to view the proceedings. Viewing of the webcast does not require registration; there is no limit on the number of webcast viewers.
